Liulin
Liulin is an active detector with a silicon diode as the sensitive volume. It can measure energy deposition spectra, fluxes and doses in mixed radiation fields by detecting the energy imparted, ε, to its active volume in a single energy deposition event. After an appropriate calibration, it gives an estimation of neutron and non-neutron component of the ambient dose equivalent.
Primarily, Liulin was developed for cosmic radiation monitoring onboard spacecrafts. Nowadays, Liulin type detectors are also used to characterise radiation field on board aircraft, at alpine observatories and behind the shielding of heavy ion accelerators.
